REMINDER: Don't forget to send in your Training/Workout log. If you haven't been sending them in, start now. If you missed sending one in, send it. You will still be eligible for the $$$. And, I'm convinced, you will also increase your chances of reaching your potential as an athlete. That should be the real incentive.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"Start where your are. Use what you have. Do what you can." Arthur Ashe
No matter what your time / distance / height PR may be, all of you have countless resources available to help you improve. Use them. Do what you can. Do EVERYTHING that you can!
WSU- ANOTHER GREAT MEET
The Titan Indoor Records took another beating at the Weber State Indoor meet Saturday. Two Indoor Records fell and nine marks made the All-Time Top Five list. Cidnee Davies set her 4th indoor record of the season as she won the 55m hurdles in 8.83. She also climbed into the #3 spot in the 55m dash running 7.77 to place 5th. Her 16'00 leap in the long jump was good enough to place 5th. Jentry Skidmore ran her first "real" hurdle race and finished 5th in 9.23, the #3 all-time mark. She also placed 3rd in the 55m dash in 7.64, the #2 all-time mark. Her 15'09 in the long jump was good enough for 5th, and she finished off her great meet by placing 3rd in the 200m dash running 27.69, the fastest time ever by a Lady Titan on a 200m indoor track. Isabella Williams took off her basketball shoes and ran 5:12.72 to finish 2nd (by .1 seconds) in the 1600m run. This missed her sisters’ indoor record by .2 seconds. Brenn Flint had a huge series of big throws in winning the shot put with a toss of 38'06. That was not only an indoor record, but better than her outdoor PR. That is a great mark for this early in the season, and using a new technique. It certainly impressed the WSU coaches. Emily Smith cleared 5'00 in the high jump to finish 4th in her initial indoor competition. That was good enough for the #2 all-time mark. Liz Wood tied her PR of 7'00 in the pole vault to place 5th and move into the #4 spot on the all-time list. There were many other outstanding performances that just missed placing in the top-8 or just missing the all-time list. Rachel Griffin ran 5:53.1, placing 9th and just missing the list. Many distance Girls had big indoor PR’s, including a couple by close to 20-seconds in the 1600. The hard work is starting to show as the season progresses.
The Boys also had some good performances, even if the record assault wasn’t quite as obvious. Jacob Wakefield won the 55m hurdles with a time of 8.49. That is the #4 all-time mark. He was closely followed by Tanner Kutterer who ran 8.57 to place 2nd. Broderic Hall’s 6.89 placed 4th in the 55m dash, and puts him into the #4 all-time position. Hunter Woodhall ran 55.58 to place 4th in the 400m dash, and 25.53 to just miss scoring in the 200m dash. Carson Andreasen’s 2:07.1 was good enough to place 4th in the 800m run. Ammon Riley threw 41'06 to place 5th in the shot put. He had a big throw of around 46' that would have been near the winning mark, but just fouled. Still a great start in his first meet using the spin technique. Jordan Howes cleared 5'02 to place 8th in the high jump, and Avin Checketts jumped 9'00 to finish 6th in the pole vault. Ben Lantz’s 56.75 was fast enough to place 8th in the 400m dash. And Bryant Edgerton’s 4:49.1 in the 1600m run put him in 8th place.
As with the Girls’, there were many good efforts on the Boys’ side that didn’t score or make the all-time lists. As long as you keep working hard, the PR’s will continue to drop.
ALUMNI ACTION
The only alumni result I could find was Cory Serfoss’ 50.05 in the 400m dash. He is running for Villanova University.
UHSTCA CHAMPIONSHIPS
This meet is considered the Utah Indoor State Championships. It will be a good meet to see how we stack up against the rest of the state. All good programs in the state will be there. I’ve attached the meet information and Olympic Oval Waiver. It is very important that you read and follow the directions very carefully. I need to make the meet entries online by Wednesday evening. To avoid a very expensive late entry fee, you need to bring $10, the signed waiver and a list of the events you want to compete in by Wednesday’s workout.
SIMPLOT GAMES
Initial information for Simplot will be handed out this week at practice. The cost will be about $100 plus $20 for a USATF membership. Start planning accordingly if you think you may qualify for the meet.
