Titan Track Bulletin - March 30, 2014

MANY THANKS TO...
Lindsey Bailey- Lindsey leaves Wednesday for the MTC prior to her mission to Mexico.  It may be necessary to cancel the rest of the season.  We are losing a great coach as well as her help in conducting meets.
Titan Parents and Administration- Thanks for the help and support in hosting the Davis District Championships.  The help in concessions, securing sponsors, etc., will really help our program.
Coaches- Thanks for your extra efforts in helping make the District Championships a success.  And for all of the other sacrifices you make for the program and your support of the Old Coach.
Titan Athletes- There were many compliments from the coaches concerning the meet.  Not only were most assignments carried out efficiently, but many volunteered to help other schools with their assignments.
Kevin Hansen- For newcomers, Kevin is the man with the camera at our meets.  He donates 100's of hours each year taking some great pictures at our meets.  They will be posted at:  http://shstitantrackphotos.blogspot.com/

DAVIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
Both squads had some great performances in finishing second at the championships.  How good were the performances?  Boys and Girls combined had the most 1st place finishes in the meet.  And the Titans also dominated the individual awards handed out at the conclusion of the meet.  For the Girls, Bella Williams won the Performance of the Meet for her 5:07 winning time in the 1600m run.  Cidnee Davies was voted the co-Athlete of the Meet as she won the 100m hurdles, was 2nd in the high jump and 3rd in the long jump.  In the Boys voting, Titans shared the tri-Athletes of the Meet.  Nick Merriman (1st place discus, 2nd place long jump, 2nd place pole vault, and 3rd place 110m hurdles), and Karson Nielson (1st place 110m and 300m hurdles and 6th place high jump) shared the honor.
If was a very successful meet in that several Titans “punched their ticket” to State in this early competition.  The state qualifiers were:
Cidnee Davies (100m hurdles, long jump, high jump), Brenn Flint (shot put and discus), Suzy Robertson (300m hurdles), Sharlie Dimick (1600m and 3200m runs), Bella Williams (1600m and 3200m runs), Karson Nielson (110m and 300m hurdles), Colten Yardley (110m and 300m hurdles), Nick Merriman (discus and pole vault), Caden Call (shot put), and Kavika Founa (100m dash).  Kavika, Diante Lora, Broderic Hall and Daunte Atkinson also qualified in the 4x100m relay.
Sharlie, Bella, Brenn, Cidnee, Karson, Colten, Kavika and Nick were extremely impressive as they dominated multiple events in the meet and really changed the Titan All-Time lists.
There were many outstanding performances that fell short of state qualifying marks, but they demonstrated that we can really be a force by the end of the season.  The complete results can be found at: www.runnercard.com.

COPPER HILLS INVITATIONAL
Both Boys and Girls TEAMS finished 3rd at the Copper Hills Invitational.  Box Elder and Murray finished ahead of the Girls, while only 2.5 points separated Copper Hills, West Jordan and Syracuse in the Boys team race.  With several key athletes missing, other Titans stepped up their performances to keep us near the top.  The cold and very windy conditions hurt chances to qualify for State, but the great efforts were evident in about every event.
Spencer Woodhall battled the wind and threw a PR 137'04" in the discus to qualify for State.  Brenn Flint won the shot put (37'01.50") and was 2nd in the discus (115'06"), both PR’s and qualifying marks.  Cidnee Davies leaped 16'10 in the long jump to increase her school record.  Lauren Busby PR’ed in the pole vault at 7'00.  The wind probably hampers races of a lap or more by close to two-seconds per lap.  So, those who came close to their PR’s had to run great races.  Loren Burrell (54.48) and Hunter Woodhall (53.62) both PR’ed in the 400m dash. Bella Williams’ 2:21.98 in the 800 was a big PR and good enough to win the event.  Jenna Huckaby (3:01.17), Amberlyn Lark (3:04.57) and Aimee Patterson (3:05.56) also had personal records in the 800.  Bryant Edgertons’ 4:49.88 was a PR and put him in 5th place.  Tanner Robb ran 11:43.48 in the 3200m run, his best of the season.  And Blake Taurone (114'04) and Josh Wabel (80'07) had PR’s in the javelin while throwing into the big wind.  Blake just keeps working hard and getting better in several events and is going to be a key to our success by the end of the year.
The real highlight of the entire day was by everyone who made the necessary sacrifices and changes in their schedule to compete and support the TEAM.  Example: Coach Knight making the trek to West Jordan even though his wife could deliver at any time.  He probably had a better excuse than most for missing the meet.
Complete results of the meet can again be found at: www.runnercard.com.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Bella Williams is one of the A of W as she was totally dominant in the three individual events she ran this week.  Spencer Woodhall had and great week as he PR’ed in both throws, qualifing for State in the discus.  Colten Yardley also had a great week qualifying for State in both hurdles as well as placing in both events in both meets.  And, while Caden Call’s winning streak in the shot came to an end, he maintained his consistency of throwing in the 48' range each time out.

ALUMNI ACTION
At the UVU Invitational, Erin Kibler ran 5:06.6 in the 1500m run and Lindsey McFarland 2:16.33 in the 800m run.  At the same meet, Chris Jackson turned in a 15.83 in the 110m hurdles.  BYU’s 4x400m relay ran 3:08 at the Texas Relays with Tyrell Yardley running a 46.6 split.
