Titan Track Bulletin - March 23, 2014

GOOD WIN FOR THE TITANS
The Titans were dominant for the second week in the five-way meet held Wednesday.  The Lady Titans scored 126.5 points to run away from Northridge (69), Fremont (59.5), Viewmont (57) and Layton (15).  The Boys were even more dominant as they tallied 170 points to outdistance Layton (52.5), Northridge (48), Viewmont (43.5) and Fremont (36).
The following picked up victories for the Lady Titans: Cidnee Davies, long jump (16'07") and 100m hurdles (15.46, #2 all-time); Brenn Flint, shot put (36'06") and discus (98'10); Suzy Robertson, 300m hurdles (48.52); Jentry Skidmore, 100m dash (12.82, #2 all-time); Bella Williams, 1600m run (5:15.7); and Maddie Neyts, 3200m run (12.46.54, #6 all-time).  Bella, Sharlie Dimick, Mallory Ashby and Brooklyn Nash won the 4x400m relay in 4:16.25.  Bella, Courtnee Bearnson, and ?? won the medley relay in 4:41.91.
Finishing first for the Boys were: Caden Call, shot put (45'09.50); Nick Merriman, discus (135'04); Mason Leishman, javelin (143'06); Karson Nielson, 110m hurdles (15.59) and 300m hurdles (40.72, #5 all-time); Kavika Fonua, 100m dash (11.24); Daunte Atkinson, 200m dash (22.93); Hunter Woodhall, 400m dash (54.44).  Daunte, Kavika, Mace Kucej and Diante Lora won the 4x100m relay in 43.53.  Korbin Markos, Broderic Hall, Loren Burrell and Bryant Edgerton placed first in the medley relay.  And Nielson, Atkinson, Woodhall, and Colten Yardley won the 4x400m relay turning in a time of 3:39.95.
There were many more PR’s set and great efforts that showed improvement.  And that is what we are shooting for each week.  Getting a little more prepared each day and learning more about what it takes to compete.  As a TEAM, there are many signs that this is taking place.  Individually- that is each athlete’s call.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Girls’ A of W was Brenn Flint.  She has dominated the shot put and discus in our meets so far this season.  Jeff Reed was selected for the Boys.  Jeff’s performances on the track were very good.  Other “performances” away from the track were more impressive during a very trying time in his life.

FRIDAY’S WORKOUT
Again, we had a very good Friday workout.  Many athletes turned in some times they may have thought weren’t possible.  The best example was in the Girls’ 3200m run.  Prior to the race, only 10 Lady Titans had run faster than 13:55.  Six ran faster in that one race.  Bella Williams, Sharlie Dimick, Adriana McFarland, Gabby Young, Ashley Walker and Becca Jacobsen all ran under that time.  The Boys were also impressive as Ryan Andreasen, Cody Kelley and Tyler Fessler all ran under 10:34, and Bryant Edgerton finished under 11:00.  The top 400's were turned in by Karson Nielson (52.49) and Mallory Ashby (1:04.21).  Kavika Fonua (23.99) and Jentry Skidmore (27.77) had the top 200 times.
The drawing for $$$ will be at the start of the workout Monday.

DAVIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Titans play host to all of the Davis District high schools Tuesday and Wednesday.  This is our first state qualifying meet.  We expect everyone to compete hard as well as fulfill their officiating responsibilities.  With everyone pulling together, it will be a great way to showcase our program.
You will be excused both days at 1:45.  However, unless you compete in an early event, you may want to stay in class if missing the last part will impact your grade.

COPPER HILLS INVITATIONAL
This will be our second state qualifying meet.  We are limited in the number of entries we are allowed.  I haven’t received final information from the meet director yet- more info will be coming.

SPRING BREAK
We will work out during spring break.  I realize many will be out of town, but we want to use every opportunity we can to improve and prepare for Region and State.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Mar 25/26 - Davis District Championships at SHS @ 3:00 pm
Mar 29 - Copper Hills Inv. @ 9:00 am
