Nridge/LAYTON/FREMONT QUAD MEET
The Titans dominated this four-way meet Wednesday at Syracuse. The girls scored 139 points to run away from Northridge (52), Layton (48) and Fremont (3). One the boys side, the Titans finished with 201 points to easily outdistance Layton (32), Northridge (27) and Fremont (3). Fremont only brought their JV kids.
Sarah Sperry had a great meet winning the high jump (5'01, tying her own school record), shot put (30'09), discus (73'06) and running on the winning 4x400m relay. Courtney Lemmons also had a great meet the 100m dash (13.70), long jump (14'08.50) and running the anchor on the 1st place 4x100m relay. Other Lady Titan winners were Michelle Thurgood, pole vault (7'00, tying the senior class record), Cheyna Field, 400m dash (1:05.40), Katrina Dunlap, 800m run (2:33.7) and Erin Kibler, 3200m run (12:53.0).
The boys were even more dominant winning 16 of the 17 events. Matt Dunston was the only double individual winner as he captured the 200m dash (23.96) and 400m dash (53.73). Zach Watson cleared 14'00 to win the pole vault while Koa Mo’o won the high jump at 6'02. This is the #2 mark ever at Syracuse in only his 2nd track meet. Titans won all three throwing events with Spencer Hull winning the shot put (42'10), Brad Sherman the discus (133'03) and Shane Russell the javelin (134'04). Jaxon Worthen won the 110m hurdles (16.25) and Mike Russell the 300m hurdles (43.94). This was Mike’s first attempt at the event- he made it a good one. Kavika Fonua’s 11.60 into a big head wind won the 100m dash over teammate Jake Garver. Landon Greenhalgh moved into the #5 spot on the all-time list with his 2:02.14 in the 800m run. Tom Hill and Cody Kelley captured the top two spots in the distance races with Tom winning the 1600m run (5:02.0) and Cody the 3200m run (11:04.3). In the highlight event of the meet, two 4x400m teams finished ahead of the two-man 1600m relay team of Jaxon Hansen and Brandon Yardley. Great effort by all eight relays in the final event.
Overall the meet was a good one with 19 marks making the all-time top ten list and four classes records set. But the competition will definitely get tougher as the season progresses.
