BREAKING NEWS - Many of you know of and are friends with Brad Nye, of Davis. He just won the New Balance National Indoor Mile Run in New York City. His time was 4:08.67!! I think it's the first time anyone from Utah has won an event at the meet.
WHAT A GREAT WEEK!!!
Hey, we even had a couple days of good weather!! There were many other things that happened this week that make the coaches excited about the season. We are getting more kids involved and hopefully, will keep everyone going for the rest of the year. The Parent/Athlete Night was great. The Intrasquad meet gave everyone a starting point. And, the Saturday morning workout was a good one- great weather and a chance for many of you got get some individual help from Coaches Wilcox, Cannon, Day and Murray.
PARENT/ATHLETE NIGHT
Thanks to all who attended. I think it was very worthwhile. James Parker was outstanding. His presentation definitely had me fired up, ready to try and do a better job of coaching. I hope he had the same impact on you as a student/athlete.
INTRASQUAD MEET
Great weather, great meet. It was fun to watch so many “newbies” have their first exposure to the sport. It was also great to see some excitement and competitiveness with the “Syracuse” TEAM emerging victorious over the "Titans". On the Girls side, some of the highlights were: Jaydin Hurst winning both hurdles and placing in the 100 and 200 dashes; Rachelle Holden winning both jumps; Nicole Lavely winning the javelin and discus; Erin Kibler winning the 800 and 3200 and finishing 2nd in the 1600; Courtney Lemmons winning the 100 and finishing 2nd in the long jump in her first track meet; Sarah Sperry winning the shot put then running off to play in the All-Star Basketball game; Shelby Cadwell winning the 200 and running on the winning 8x400; Lindsey Bailey winning the 400 and placing 2nd in the 200; and Maddy Neyts running all three distance races and PRing in two of them.
Boys highlights: Zach Watson breaking his own school record in the pole vault clearing 14'01" as well as placing 2nd in the 200; Brandon Yardley running everything winning the 200, 400 and 800; Jaxon Hansen winning the 800 and finishing 2nd in the 1600; Jaxon Worthen winning the high jump and 110 hurdles; Bradley Sherman winning the discus and javelin; Spencer Hull winning the shot put and placing in the discus and javelin; Mike Russell winning the long jump and placing in the 800 and 1600; Ashton Bigelow winning the 300 hurdles and placing in the 110's; Kavika Fonua winning the 100 and placing in the shot put and high jump. Favorite event: the coed 4x800m relay. It was close to the end with all competitors giving 100% to help their TEAM.
There were many more highlights- and many more highlights to come over the next 10 weeks.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the first Athletes of the Week for the outdoor season were: Erin Kibler and Brandon Yardley. Between the two of them, they competed in about eight or nine events. I think they were two tired athletes Friday night.
TITANS / HILLCREST @ COPPER HILLS
