Titan Track Bulletin - March 18, 2012

HEY, YOU’RE YOUNG- JUST DO IT!!
Good quote from the movie “Amazing Grace”: “We’re too young to realize certain things are impossible. Which is why we will do them anyway.” Too often we old timers plant limitations into your heads. Fortunately, you are young enough to realize that the “impossible” challenges are just that, challenges. Aim High. Do the “impossible” anyway!!

COPPER HILLS DUAL
There were two school records and one general record set when the Titans traveled to Copper Hills. Sarah Sperry cleared 5'01" for a new records in the high jump, and Zach Watson broke his own record in the pole vault with a 14'06" clearance. Definitely the outstanding performances of the meet. The general record: longest dual meet ever. It was a good thing Hillcrest didn’t show up- we’d still be there.
The Girls came up short in the TEAM scores as Copper Hills scored 81 to the Lady Titans 58. Capturing individual 1st place finishes were: Jaylen Hernandez and Mallory Ashby in the pole vault (7'00, a new sophomore record for Mallory), Lindsey Bailey, 800m run (2:36.7), Sharlie Dimick, 1600m run (5:49.4). Sam Segura, Jordan Anderson, Mallory Ashby and Cheyna Field won the medley relay and Lindsey Bailey, Cheyna Field, Sharlie Dimick and Shelby Cadwell won the 4x400m relay.
The Boys dominated Copper Hills winning by a score of 81 to 51. Besides Watson’s win in the pole vault, 1st place finishes in individual events went to: Spencer Hull, shot put (46'10"), Brad Sherman, discus (123'08"), Matt Dunston, 400m dash (53.5), Mike Russell, 800m run (2:07.1), Brandon Yardley, 1600m run (4:38.6) and Jaxon Hansen, 3200m run (10:23.9). Watson, Jake Zaugg, Will Haddick and Landon Greenhalgh won the medley relay in 3:51.9. And 12 Titans ran very close together to sweep the top three spots in the 4x400m relay. All three TEAMS were timed between 3:39.2 and 3:41.2. How impressive is this? 12 Titans averaged 55-seconds for their legs. VERY impressive. Sorry, I’m not sure who was on which TEAM.
Although the meet went very long, it was very encouraging to see so many PR’s and several marks that made our All-Time Top Ten list. This list can be viewed in a previous post.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the Athletes of the Week were: Sarah Sperry and Zach Watson. It’s hard to overlook school records.
