QUOTE OF THE WEEK"Don’t be afraid to give up the good to go for the great." John D. Rockefeller
Aim high. Don’t be timid. Take a chance.
BOISE NEW BALANCE INVITATIONAL
Every Titan who made the trip to Boise returned with at least one seasonal best performance in their event(s). Three indoor school records were also established in the process. The competition was tough as there were athletes from nine states competing, and three marks were set that ranked #1 in the U.S.
Brenn Flint had a huge meet as she threw 40'05.50 to win the shot put. (That qualifies as a "Beamonesque" throw, right Brooklyn?) It is a school record and the #15 mark in Utah indoor history. She also captured the weight throw with a toss of 34'08. Cidnee Davies also broke her own school record with a 9.17 in the 60m hurdle trials. That is the #10 mark in Utah indoor history. She came back with a 9.22 in the finals to place 4th. Cid also finished 4th in the long jump with a leap of 17'08. Kayla Rees set the 3rd school record with her time of 26.05 in the 200m dash. That was good enough for 7th place in the event (won in a nation-leading 23.39 time) and also rates as the #12 mark by a Utah athlete on a 200m track. She also placed 8th in the 60m dash with a time of 7.95.
Jentry Skidmore moved into the #2 position on the Titan all-time list in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.47. That also ranks as the #23 mark in Utah history. Not bad a rookie hurdler. And speaking of rookie hurdlers, Anne Petersen’s 9.87 in her first hurdle race ranks as the #5 all-time Titan mark. Her 28.23 in the 200m dash is the #4 mark run on a 200m track. Now, if Anne can just learn the meaning of the word confidence!
Carson Andreasen had a big seasonal best running 4:46.96 for the 1600m. His 400 time was wiped out with a lane violation. Ryan Andreasen also had a seasonal best with his 2:05.97 in the 800m run. Tanner Kutterer ran a PR 9.21 in the 60m hurdle trials to reach the finals. He was just off that mark on the second day, but still finished 11th. I believe that was the fastest time for a sophomore in the event.

ALUMNI ACTION
Tyrell Yardley ran 47.03 to win the 400m dash at the New Mexico Inv. This is the #5 mark in BYU indoor history. The hard work and perseverance is paying off. Suzy Robertson ran 1:01.46 in the 400 and 9.49 in the 60m hurdles at the Air Force Inv in Colorado. And Ali Morris had a big clearance over 11'06 in the pole vault in Boise. It was great to witness her big PR.
HOPE RUN
Plan on running/walking the Hope Run Monday at 4:00. You can register Monday during lunch or from 3:00 - 4:00 before the run. The $5.00 entry will get you a beanie, cocoa and cookies. It would be a good "warmdown" following a moderate workout.
UTAH DISTANCE CHALLENGE
This meet will take place Friday, Feb 13th at the Olympic Oval in Kearns. The cost is $5.00- no limit on events. There is no cost for spectators. There will be no bus- you will have to arrange your own rides. This can be a good tune up for Simplot and a fast track for PR’s.

5:00 - 1600m Run
7:00 - 400m Dash
