UHSTCA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS
This meet is considered the Utah Indoor State Championships. With over 60 schools competing, the Titans fared very well against the top athletes in the state. The boys finished 3rd behind Davis and Riverton and the girls were 16th.
The meet was highlighted by three indoor school records- all coming in the relays. Katrina Dunlap, Erin Kibler, Mallory Ashby and Cheyna Field ran 10:29.68 to finish 6th and set a new school record. Tom Hill, Mike Russell, Brandon Yardley and Jaxon Hansen followed that up running 8:23.98 to not only set an indoor record but capture first place in the event. The long two days was capped off by Russell, Yardley, Hansen and Matt Dunston running 3:27.95 to finish 2nd in the 4x400m relay in a new school record. This performance is also the #9 mark ever run by a Utah High School team. Riverton set the #8 mark in the same race.
In other results, the girls continued their improvement with several Titan All-time Top-Five marks. Kenzie Long ran 10.98 to move into the #5 spot in the 60m hurdles. Cheyna Field (2:32.46) and Katrina Dunlap (2:32.83) are now #4 and #5 in the 800m run. Not a bad result for Katrina’s first open 800 race. Erin Kibler’s 13:16.59. improved on her #4 mark in the 3200m run.
For the boys, Brandon and Jaxon had very busy days. Besides the two school records in the relays, Brandon ran 4:30.48 to place 8th and improve on his #3 all-time mark in the 1600m run. His 2:00.90 in the 800m run was good enough for 7th in the meet and also #3 on the all-time list. Jaxon ran 2:01.39 to finish 8th in the 800. In field events, Jake Zaugg and Zach Watson cleared 13'00 in the pole vault to tie for 2nd. Will Haddick moved into the #4 all-time position in clearing 9'06. Spencer Hull’s 46'06 in the shot put was good enough for 5th place. Though not placing in their events, the following moved onto the Titan All-Time list: Alex Vanderloo (24.06, #5 200m dash), Matt Dunston (52.35, #4 400m dash), and Cody Kelley (10:38.76, #5 3200m run).
The meet was a very good one for the Titans. It showed we could compete against the best. But more importantly, it demonstrated the competitive nature of many of you. The commitment to improve is what will determine our success in the outdoor season. This commitment is necessary from everyone- not just those who generally score the points.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
Zach Watson running 400 meters in a 4x200m relay!! Long story.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Chosen as the Athletes of the Week were Lindsey Bailey, Jaydin Hurst, Sam Segura, Tom Hill, Will Haddick and Matt Dunston. All had very good meets at the Oval, and more importantly, are making the necessary commitments to become the best they can be and to help the TEAM.
SIMPLOT GAMES

ALUMNI UPDATE
Lindsey McFarland ran an outstanding 2:19.01 at a big meet at Idaho State to win one of the two heats of the 800m run. That’s a huge accomplishment. Mayra Franco ran 8.01 in the 60m and 25.5 in the 200m dash at Boise. Great times for Mayra. Hunter Naisbitt threw 46'11 in the shot and 44'07 in the weight at the same meet. His marks will continue to improve as he adjusts to the larger collegiate weights.
