Indoor Track Bulletin - Feb 19, 2012

THANKS....
....to everyone that helped make the indoor season and especially the trip to Idaho for the Simplot Games a great success. A special thanks to Coaches Busby and Wilcox for the countless hours they have put in since our indoor season began 10 weeks ago, and Kevin Hansen for the 1000's of pictures taken at every one of our meets. The help from Ashlee Cannon and Jen Day has made a difference and is greatly appreciated. Thanks to all parents for your support. Double thanks to those who helped transporting athletes to Simplot. And finally, thanks to all athletes who worked hard, were committed, and supported the TEAM efforts throughout the season. This will pay off in huge improvements outdoors.

SIMPLOT GAMES
It took 46 hours from the first gun to get some Titans on the awards stand, but it was 46 hours filled with great efforts and personal records. Improvements and PR’s are the name of the game. In fact, the World Records are just someone’s personal record.
Erin Kibler got things started running a big PR 12:50.81 in the 3200m run, the #4 mark on the Titan Indoor All-Time list. Katelyn Davidson also had a big PR in the 3200 running 14:22.03. A little later, Brandon Yardley turned in a 4:29.92 for the 4th fastest time in the qualifying heats of the 1600m run. This is the #3 all time indoor mark and was the start of an amazing meet for Brandon. Landon Greenhalgh (4:41.44) and Nick Merriman (6:01.00) also PR’ed in the 1600.
On Friday, Jake Zaugg and Zach Watson easily cleared 13'03 on their first attempts to qualify for Saturday’s finals. Brandon, Jaxon Hansen, Mike Russell and Matt Dunston qualified for the finals of the 4x400m relay with a 3:34.90. Brandon, Matt, Zach and Kavika Fonua also made the finals of the medley relay running 3:45.85. Spencer Hull just missed by a few inches of making finals in the shot put and Stefan Kurzius had two great attempts at 5'11 in the high jump and also PR’d in the 60m hurdles running 9.39.
In other Friday action, PR’s were set by Kenzie Long (10.96), Ashley Rodriguez (11.63) and Lauren Busby (12.18) in the 60m hurdles. Lindsey Bailey ran an indoor PR 1:04.33 in the 400m dash and Claudia Lopez Cascon a 33.95 PR in the 200m dash. Maddy Neyts’ 2:58.77 was a PR in the 800m run.
Matt Dunston (24.70) and Brayden Ryan (25.55) had indoor PR’s for the 200m dash. While not a PR, Kavika Fonua’s 7.28 in the 60m dash was the 2nd fastest by a Utah athlete.
Coach Wilcox (5:15.86) and Coach Busby (5:38.97) ran great races in the coaches mile. Haley placed 2nd for the women while Coach Wilcox was 2nd in his age group and a crowd favorite. Way to represent the Titans.
In Saturday action, Zach Watson and Jake Zaugg PR’d in the pole vault clearing 14'00". That mark is also the new school indoor record and makes the Utah All-Time Indoor list. In the 4x800m relays, Katrina Dunlap (2:32.9), Erin Kibler (2:33.2), Mallory Ashby (2:43.1), Katelyn Davidson (2:54.0), Landon Greenhalgh (2:04.9), and Cody Kelley (2:09.9) had PR relay splits for 800 meters. In the medley relay finals, Yardley ran an incredible 1:57.5 anchor leg to bring help the Titans finish 9th. Will Haddick ran a good lead-off 400 and Dunston and Fonua ran 23.8 splits in their 200's to get the baton to Brandon. In the final event of the meet, Jaxon Hansen (51.5), Mike Russell (53.3), Dunston (51.6) and Yardley (50.8) ran 3:28.24 to place 5th in the 4x400m relay. The time is the #8 mark in Utah history run on 200m tracks. It was an exciting finish to a great meet and a fitting conclusion to a very good indoor season.
A great deal of progress was made over the 10- week indoor season. Let’s hope this progress continues throughout the outdoor season. A very successful journey awaits those who commit and work hard.
