Titan Track Bulletin - April 26, 2015

ONE WEEK ‘TIL REGION
We will be hosting the Region One Championships May 6th and 7th. That gives us one week for final preparation. Our workouts and meets will be used with the intention of having everyone as prepared as possible for the meet. For some that will involve one or two intense workouts, for others it may be "tuning up" and getting healthy for the meet. This is not the time for drastic changes in your routines.

NORTHRIDGE/VIEWMONT TRI-MEET

This was a good meet for athletes to try different events or to attempt to move up in the Region Rankings. In the process, there were several outstanding performances. Picking up individual victories were: Camilla Moses (pole vault, 9'06); Taya Tobler (long jump, 15'00); Brenn Flint (shot put, 37'11 and discus, 125'03); Kaycee Adams (javelin, 104'00); Anne Petersen (100m hurdles, 15.97); Megan Page (400m dash, 1:06.23); Rachel Griffin (800m run, 2:28.94, #6 all-time); and Isabella Williams (1600m run, 5:31.6). The final team scores in Girls competition was Syracuse 76, Viewmont 52 and Northridge 31.
Picking up individual victories for the Boys were: Carrick White (long jump, 19'04); Joel Bolduc (shot put, 45'05); Kayden White (discus, 141'09), Mason Leishman (javelin, 161'06); Tanner Kutterer (110m hurdles, 15.93 and 300m hurdles, 43.71); Mace Kucej (100m dash, 11.50); Colten Yardley (200m dash, 23.42); and Carson Andreasen (400m dash, 52.63). The final team scores were Syracuse 77, Viewmont 60 and Northridge 21.

DAVIS HIGH INVITATIONAL

Most of the top athletes in the state as well as some of Wyoming’s best were competing at the Davis High Invitational. The Titans walked away with several watches and medals as well as school records and state-qualifying marks. This invitational is basically two meets: The Seeded portion is limited to the very top athletes in each event. The Open session involved the next top athletes and is also extremely competitive.
Anne Petersen was very busy and successful in the Open session. She place 5th in the 100m hurdles (16.38), 4th in the 300m hurdles (47.71) and 5th in the long jump (16'05"). Jentry Skidmore tied for 1st in the 100m dash running 13.00. Rachel Griffin placed 2nd in the 3200m run with a big PR 12:03.31. That is the #4 Titan All-Time mark. Anne, Jentry, Kayla Rees and Cidnee Davies won the 4x100m relay in 49.60. That is the #3 mark in Titan history and the #3 mark in Utah 5A this year. While not picking up medals, big PR’s in the 1600m run were turned in by Abbey Greenhalgh (5:50.43, #9 all-time), Renee Peterson (5:50.48, #10 all-time) and Gabby Young (5:57.14). Taya Tobler moved into the #6 spot on the all-time list in the 300m hurdles running 48.63.
Adam Johnson’s 144'05 throw was good enough to place 4th in the javelin. He had a 160' narrow foul that would have won the event. Mace Kucej ran 23.07 to place 5th in the 200m dash. His 11.41 in the 100m dash is the #6 all-time mark. Tyler Fessler’s 10:14.25 (missing the all-time list by .02) in the 3200m run was good enough to place 8th. Ryan Andreasen finished 8th in the 800m run in 2:02.75. Zach Daines tied for 8th in the pole vault clearing 12'00. Mace, Colten Yardley, Broderic Hall and Daunte Atkinson won the 4x100m relay in 42.73. That is the #2 mark in Titan history and the #4 5A time in Utah this year. Bryant Edgerton finished 5th in the 1600m run in 4:30.74. That is the #7 all-time mark. Also picking up big PR’s in the 1600m run were Carson Andreasen (4:38.91, #10 all-time), Jake Reynolds (4:39.23) and Tyler Stark (4:44.44).
In the elite Invited session, Cidnee Davis just missed her school record in the 100m hurdles finishing 2nd in 14.73. She also placed 3rd in the long jump in 17'07.50, just 3" off her school record. Kayla Rees had another incredible meet. She tied her school record in the 100m dash finishing 2nd in 12.22, placed 3rd in the 400m dash in a school record time of 57.19 and capped off her big day with a 3rd place finish in the 200m dash in 25.43. Isabella Williams ran 5:05.71 to place 6th in the 3200m run. The "tiny sophomores", Camilla Moses and Hailee Swank, continued their great jumping in the pole vault. Camilla placed 4th (9'09, #2 all-time) and Hailee 6th (8'09, #6 all-time). Brenn Flint had a huge school record toss of 41'05.50 to place 4th in the shot put. She also finished 4th in the discus throwing 124'11.
In the Boys Invited portion of the meet, Ammon Riley threw 45'07 to place 7th in the shot put. Kayden White’s 146'02 throw in the discus was good enough for 6th. Colten Yardley had a great day winning the 300m hurdles in 38.25 (a school record and the #1 mark in Utah this year) and placing 3rd in the 110m hurdles in 14.63, missing the school record by .01. The 400m dash provided some excitement as Hunter Woodhall held off a rapidly closing Daunte Atkinson to win the event in 49.30. That is the #3 mark in Titan history. Daunte was 2nd in 49.40. Those are the #1 and #2 5A marks this year. Daunte recovered enough to place 4th in the 200m dash in 22.04. That is the #2 Titan mark as well as the #2 5A time in Utah. Colten, Hunter, Daunte and Loren Burrell capped off a great meet winning the 4x400m relay in 3:24.10, the #4 Titan mark and the fastest time in Utah this year. What made it even more impressive was that it was run during a driving rain storm.
No team scores are kept for this meet, but if they were, the Titans would have placed in the top-three in both Girls and Boys. There were many great things to build on as the season winds down.

SOME THANKS!!
I hope you athletes (and parents) appreciate the efforts and time your coaches are putting in to give you every opportunity to pursue excellence. Coaches Murray, Wilcox, Knight, Wheeler and Jones go far above and beyond what is asked of them each and every day. There are many things they could be doing with their time that would be far more profitable. However, they choose to spend this time helping every athlete, no matter how talented or what their scoring potential may be. Thanks from me, and I hope each of you take a moment to thank them.
Also thanks to Kevin Hansen and Stephen Riley for their support in taking pictures at the meets. Kevin’s can be found at: http://kevinhansen.smugmug.com/. You can find Stephen’s at: https://www.facebook.com/2015titantrackandfield.

WILDCAT INVITATIONAL

Good weather and great competition (the top three 5A teams in Utah in the field) resulted in some outstanding performances at Woods Cross Friday. By the end of the meet, two school records had fallen, 28 Titan All-Time marks set, and 21 state-qualifying standards had been achieved. Colten Yardley broke his own school record in the 300m hurdles running 38.39, the leading time in Utah this year. He also won the 110m hurdles in 14.87, the #2 Titan all-time mark and #2 Utah time in 2015. Cidnee Davies set the other school record leaping 17'10.00 to win the long jump. She also won the 100m hurdles in 15.22.
In the highlight race of the evening, Daunte Atkinson and Hunter Woodhall battled to the line finishing 1st and 3rd in the 400m dash in 49.21 and 49.48 respectively. Titan Track Bulletin - April 12, 2015

NORTHRIDGE DUAL
The Titans picked up a couple wins at the meet held Thursday at Northridge. The Girls won 80-48 while the Boys picked up an 87-31 victory. There were several PR’s as well as four marks making the Titan All-Time Top Ten list. Anne Petersen had a great meet with two marks making the all-time list. She won the 100m hurdles (15.82, #5) and 300m hurdles (47.18, #4). Kaycee Adams (97'06, #3) and Emmy Smith (84'06, #6) moved up the list in the javelin. In her first 300m hurdle race, Taya Tobler’s 49.72 is the #8 mark. Mace Kucej made the list in the 100m dash (11.49, #9) and Tanner Kutterer improved his ranking as his 15.84 is the #8 mark mark for the 110m hurdles. While relay splits aren’t included on the list, Hunter Woodhall’s 48.8 split in the 4x400m relay was legendary. Reports vary, but most say he was around 90-100 meters behind at the final exchange, and ran down the Knight at the finish. It’s best to not get the kid mad.

GRIZZLY INVITATIONAL

Again, PR’s were quite numerous at the meet held at Logan High. And a couple marks were added to the all-time list. Hailee Swank moved into the #8 spot in the pole vault clearing 7'06. Hunter Woodhall ran 23.23 in the 200m dash, the #8 all-time mark. Carson Andreasen’s 4:40.52 in the 1600m run just missed the #10 spot.

RECORDS FALL AT ARCADIA
The Arcadia Invitational is the most prestigious high school meet in the nation. Need proof? Winning marks in 19 of the events were the #1 marks of the year in the U.S. The Lady Titans definitely held their own against the tough competition. Isabella Williams placed 4th in her heat of the mile running 5:02.75c. She was the top Utahn in the Open division. Cidnee Davies finished 5th in her heat of the 100m hurdles running 14.97. That is the #4 mark in Utah this year. Brenn Flint threw the discus 126'10 in the discus. That is the #2 mark in Utah this year. She then crushed the school record in the shot put by over 1 ½ feet throwing 39'11.50. Kayla Rees had an incredible meet setting two school records. She won her heat in the 100m dash in 12.22 (#2 mark in Utah) and came back less than an hour later to run 57.31 (#3 in Utah) in the 400m dash to finish 4th.
It was a great trip, well worth the long drive. However, it was a tough job keeping the girls out of the medical marijuana stores on Venice Beach.
Complete results as well as video of many of the events can be found at:

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

OK, the break is over. Good job by those who continued to work out and make the most of any chance possible to keep training. There are four more weeks until the Region One Championships.
