Titan Track Bulletin - April 13, 2014

NORTHRIDGE DUAL
Once again, the Titans were victorious over a region foe.  The Lady Titans doubled up Northridge 82-41 while the Boys scored 103 points to the Ridge’s 38.  It was a good meet as many left their “comfort zone” and tried some new events.  This will pay off as we enter the last phase of season.
There were many impressive performances turned in by the Lady Titans.  Suzy Robertson nipped Cidnee Davies at the line of the 100m hurdles as both dipped under the old school record.  Suzy’s time of 15.12 was just .03 ahead of Cidnee’s.  Suzy also won the high jump (5'00) and 300m hurdles (47.04).  Brenn Flint picked up a couple victories in the shot put (34'10) and discus (113'08).  Jentry Skidmore was also a double winner with victories in the 100m dash (12.74w) and a school record leap of 17'02" in the long jump.  Other victories included Emily Frei in the javelin (82'04), Mallory Ashby in the pole vault (8'06), Bella Williams in the 800m run (2:23.00), Adriana McFarland in the 1600m run (5:56.59) and Maddy Neyts in the 3200m run (13:07.10).
Karson Nielson and Colten Yardley were multiple winners for the Boys.  Karson picked up victories in the high jump (6'02, #2 all-time) and 300m hurdles (40.29, #4 all-time).  Colten was victorious in the 110m hurdles (15.07, #3 all-time) and 200m dash (23.14, #6 all-time).  Other victories came from Nick Merriman, pole vault (12'00), Blake Taurone, long jump (18'05.75), Caden Call, shot put (48'01.50), Braiden Tovey, discus (136'09), Ryan Andreasen, 800m run (2:02.04, #8 all-time), Bryant Edgerton, 1600m run (4:48.00) and Tanner Robb, 3200m run (11:43.30).

GRIZZLY INVITATIONAL
This was a great meet for the Titans as there were several state qualifying marks attained, (and also many just narrowly missed), as well as many more all-time marks and personal records.  It was also very successful as a TEAM as the Boys finished with 107.5 points, 24 points ahead of 2nd place West Jordan.  The Girls scored 85.5 points to finish 2nd behind Box Elder.  With over 25 schools participating, this was definitely a strong showing.
Suzy Robertson won the 100m hurdles in 15.31, a state qualifying mark.  She also cleared 5'00 to finish 3rd in the high jump and got off the track after falling on the 3rd hurdle to still finish 3rd in 48.64.  That had to be the performance of the meet.  Brenn Flint continued to throw great as she placed 2nd in the shot put (36'06) and 3rd in the discus (115'07).  Both were state qualifying marks.  Jentry Skidmore leaped 16'09.75 to finish 4th in the long jump and qualify for state.  She just missed qualifying in winning the 200m dash (26.92) and placing 3rd in the 100m dash (12.86).  Sharlie Dimick also just missed the SQ mark in finishing 2nd in the 800m run in 2:21.90.  In the pole vault, Mallory Ashby (4th, 8'06) and Becca Jacobsen (8th, 7'06) achieved tentative state qualifying marks.  The 4x400m relay TEAM of Sharlie, Jentry, Suzy and Katrina Dunlap ran great in capturing 1st in 4:08.60, just .11 off of qualifying for State.
The Boys victory came from good depth as they had only two victories, but scored in 15 of the 20 events.  Both wins came in the relays.  Kavika Fonua, Diante Lora, Colten Chadwick and Daunte Atkinson ran 43.02 (the 3rd fastest time in Utah this year) to win the 4x100m relay.  Kavika, Colten, Daunte and Ryan Andreasen won the medley relay in 3:38.74 to easily qualify for State.  Individually, Kavika ran 10.94 in the 100m dash to finish 2nd.  That is the #2 all-time mark and easily a SQ time.  Daunte (11.24) and Diante (11.26) finished 5th and 6th and narrowly missed the SQ time.  Daunte came back to run 22.52 to finish 4th in the 200m dash and qualify for State.  Colton (23.24) and Diante (23.30) finished 6th and 7th.  The 3200m run provided huge points as Cody Kelley (9:57.68, #3 all-time), Bryant Edgerton (10:06.80, #5 all-time) and Ryan Andreasen (10:10.70, #9 all-time) finished 3rd, 4th, and 5th.  Nicholas Merriman was busy placing 2nd in the pole vault (12'00), 2nd in the discus (146'11) and 6th in the 110m hurdles (15.98, #7 all-time).  Caden Call’s 49'08.50 was good enough for 3rd, and is the #5 all-time, and SQ mark.  Dallas Besaw placed 8th and moved to #8 on the all-time list in the shot with a throw of 46'04, a three-foot PR.  Braiden Tovey had a nine-foot PR throw of 146'08" in the discus to place 3rd, move into the #5 all-time spot, and qualify for State.  Blake Taurone set a school record in the triple jump placing 3rd with a leap of 40'00.50.  Jake Wakefield finished 6th jumping 38'03, the #2 all-time mark.  Blake also finished 8th in the 300m hurdles in 43.76, just ahead of Jake.
As we hit the downhill portion of the season, many great things are taking place.  Let’s keep working hard and keep the momentum going.

ARCADIA INVITATIONAL
Four Titans traveled to California for the most prestigious high school meet in the nation.  And they definitely represented Syracuse in great fashion.  Bella Williams had an incredible performance as she ran 4:58.84 to place 6th in the Seeded Mile Run.  That converts to a 4:57.33 for 1600m, breaking the school record set by her sister, Hannah, by 6 ½ seconds.  Just an incredible performance.  Cidnee Davies won her heat in the 100m hurdles in a time of 15.19.  Colten Yardley ran 15.25 to place 3rd in his 110m hurdle heat and Karson Nielson’s 15.29 was good enough for 5th in his heat.  Karson also placed 5th in his heat of the 300m hurdles running 41.82.  They had a great experience competing against the best in the west.

ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Probably too many this week, but all of them have some things in common.  They are all seniors and all had big PR’s this week that qualified them for State and/or contributed greatly to the TEAM performances.  Selected were: Becca Jacobsen, Sharlie Dimick, Colton Chadwick, Diante Lora, Dallas Besaw and Braiden Tovey.  Congratulations!!

ACTION THIS WEEK
We will travel to Davis Wednesday for a dual meet against the Darts.  It’s been almost 20 years since they have lost a dual meet- it may be time for that streak to come to an end.
We will host a junior high meet Thursday.  Everyone will still be prepared to work out as well as officiate the meet.
Friday is the Wildcat Invitational at Woods Cross.  This will have some of the top teams in Utah competing.  The goal will be to secure more state-qualifying marks as well as challenge for TEAM titles.  We are limited in the number of entries per event.  More info coming.
