Titan Indoor Track Bulletin - Jan 20, 2013
WSU INVITATIONAL
The Titan All-Time list took a beating at the WSU meet Friday and Saturday. Jace Skidmore got things going as he leaped 20'01.50 for a new indoor record in the long jump. Jaxon Worthen cleared 6'00 for a new record in the high jump. In the ladies high jump, Jaycie Smith jumped 4'10 for the #2 indoor mark. And Nick Merriman cleared 10'00 to take over the #5 mark in the pole vault.
While there were no school records in Saturday action, there were many more all-time marks established. Karson Nielson (8.55) and Jaxon Worthen (8.59) moved into the #2 and #4 spots in the 55m hurdles. Landon Greenhalgh won the 800m run in 2:03.34 for the #5 all-time mark. Cody Kelley’s 10:34.61 improved on his #5 position on the list.
Kenzey Fleming ran 8.18 in the 55m dash, good enough for #5 on the all-time list. Bella Williams ran a great race in the 1600m run finishing in 5:38.31 to move into the #2 spot.
Besides the all-time marks, there were many great performances by the Titans. Most of these impressive performances were by "rookies" who were competing in their first indoor meet.
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the Athletes of the Week were Ashley Rodriguez and Jace Skidmore. Ashley keeps working hard, never misses a practice, and does everything possible to become the best she can be. Jace is doing whatever it takes to make his senior year a great one. An indoor record in the long jump this week was a great way to start.
SIMPLOT GAMES
Reminder: I need your Simplot form turned in by Wednesday. I’ve attached the form in case you have lost yours.
WORKOUTS
We will meet Tuesday at 2:00. In as much as there are no basketball games that day, I’m not sure if we will have the small gym or not. But we will work out for sure.
TEAM CONDITIONING
If you have Advanced Team Conditioning 8th period, make sure you are dressed the first day of class (Thursday).
ALUMNI UPDATE
SUU’s Mayra Franco had a good time of 26.11 at Northern Arizona. She also ran a good leg on the 4x400m relay. TCU’s Jake Rossmango ran 4:31.8 in the mile run at the Auburn Invitational. Cory Serfoss turned in a 50.95 for Villanova at the Dane Invitational in New York City.

Titan Indoor Track Bulletin - Jan 13, 2013
"TITAN INDOOR INVITATIONAL
"Through the years, I’ve figured out how to change bad weather into good weather: change or cancel track and field plans. Once we made the decision not to go to Logan, the snow stopped, sun came out, roads cleared, etc. Happens every time. But, some great things happened anyway at our "Titan Indoor Invitational". In fact, Indoor School Records were set in the high jump by Mason Leishman (5'10.50) and Jordan Anderson (4'08.50). And many PR’s were set in the 1600m run. Maddy Neyts broke her outdoor PR by almost 18-seconds and Becca Jacobsen improved by 10-seconds. Zach Griffin also PR’ed running 2-seconds faster than outdoors. With the indoor tight turns, that is impressive.
While we were only able to stage competition in a limited number of events, some very good things happened in those events. Winners in the Girls competition were: Ashley Rodriguez, 60m hurdles (12.21), Gentry Skidmore, 60m dash (8.88), Bella Williams, 1600m run (5:49.74, the #3 all-time indoor mark), and Jordan Anderson in the high jump with her school record jump. Katrina Dunlap, Becca Jacobsen, Adriana McFarland and Mallory Ashby won the 4x400m relay in 4:47.6.
Winning events for the Boys were Karson Nielson, 60m hurdles (9.57), Jace Skidmore, 60m dash (7.78), Cameron Dower, 400m dash (58.3) and Landon Greenhalgh, 1600m run (4:43.6).
The winners of each event have a choice of a t-shirt or Titan headband. Pick them up Monday.
Besides the competition, there was some great pole vaulting after most had left. Ali Morris, Mallory Ashby, Kenzie Fleming, Nick Merriman and Treston Cullimore were "flying" by the time we got kicked out of the gym.
It would have been nice to have gone to USU for the meet, but is was still great to improvise, compete, and have some fun. Thanks to those who showed up and especially thanks to Coaches Busby and Wilcox. Their influence on the athletes and program was evident as there were more distance runners participating than all of the other events combined. Distance runners and distance coaches are the best!
ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Selected as the first Athletes of the Week this season were Jordan Anderson and Mason Leishman for their school records in the high jump.
WSU MEET
Info can be found in an earlier post. All field events will be contested Friday, running events Saturday. EVERYONE should plan on competing. It will be smaller than in previous years because many schools will be going to the meet at BYU.
WORKOUTS
Indoor Track is low key. However, we ask you to try a little harder to make it to every workout. As coaches, we get a little tired of answering questions, explaining drills, etc., about things we covered in previous workouts. Help us out.
ALUMNI UPDATE
The only alum action I could find was Lindsey McFarland. She ran 2:21.55 to finish 5th at the Snake River Open at Idaho State. That’s a good start to her season.
T-SHIRTS / SPANDEX
Reminder that our indoor t-shirts are $10 and the spandex for girls are $15, boys are $20. Pay in the office (make sure the money goes into Track) and bring me the receipt.

WSU Meet Information
WSU Indoor Invitational
January 18/19, 2013
READ ALL INFORMATION CAREFULLY
EVERYONE can, and should, enter this meet.
There will be no bus. You are responsible for your own transportation. Allow plenty of time to register (there is always a long line) and warmup for your event.
Enter through the southeast corner of the Stromberg Health and Physical Education Center located west of the old Swenson Gym (southwest of the football stadium). DIRECTIONS: From Harrison Blvd., go east on 3950 south- then south at the roundabout. The road turns east. Continue east past the play fields. The Stromberg Center is located about 1/4 mile east of Harrison on the north side of 4100 south.
NO FOOD, DRINK OR SPIKES ARE ALLOWED IN THE ARENA. You may take food but must leave it in a cooler or something similar in the hallway outside the main arena. Tell your parents to bring lawn chairs. WSU will not have bleachers available this year.
It costs $4.00 (including spectators) to enter the arena. This entitles you to one event. Each additional event costs $2.00. Let me know if money is a problem. We don’t want anyone to be eliminated from an event because of money. We will pay for the relay TEAMS.
