Titan Track Bulletin - March 29, 2015
DAVIS DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIPS
First of all: Thanks to everyone who helped make the meet a success. We had great success getting sponsors for almost all events. This will really help our program. Also thanks to all who helped in the overall administration of the meet. It ran smooth.
Now to the actual performances. In the team title races, the Titans finished 2nd to Davis, far ahead of the 3rd place teams. There were some amazing individual highlights that took place over the two days. Both MVP Awards (voted on by the coaches) were handed out to Titans. Kayla Rees won the ladies award with her three victories in the 100m, (12.41, #2 all-time), 200m (26.02) and 400m dashes (57.78, meet record) as well as anchoring the 3rd place 4x400m relay. Daunte Atkinson won the men’s award as he won the 200m (22.54) and 400m dashes (49.79) and placed 3rd in the 100m dash (12.23). He finished off the meet by running a 49.0 anchor leg leading the 4x400m relay (3:25.65) to victory. All marks are state qualifiers. Cidnee Davies captured one of the two Outstanding Performance Awards as she set meet records in winning the 100m hurdles (15.09, 14.80w in the trials) and long jump (17'09.50, also a school record).

With many out of town (I hate Spring Break!!!), a few Titans made the trip to Copper Hills to compete in this 20-team invitational. There were some great efforts and big PR’s that were capped off with both teams finishing 2nd, the Girls just 2 ½ points out of first.
Cidnee Davies continued to perform well as she won the 100m hurdles (15.45 into a big headwind) and finished 2nd in the 300m hurdles (47.28, #4 all-time) and long jump (17'09). PERSONAL RECORDS
The World Record is merely someone’s Personal Record. The nature of Track and Field is to continue to improve on a Personal Record. In the last couple weeks, there have been some impressive PR’s that may not have scored points or set a School Record. Here are a few examples of some impressive improvements since March 11th: Kaycee Adams, javelin (75'03-95'10); Alivia Poll, 800m (3:10 - 2:58); Karissa Jacob, 800m (3:11 - 2:58); Adriana Barcinas, 800m (3:26 - 3:17); Kayla Snyder, 1600m (6:26 - 6:09); Gabby Young, 3200m (14:12 - 13:37); Renee Peterson, 3200m (14:41 - 13:30); Abbey Greenhalgh, 3200m (14:15 - 12:56); Rachel Griffin, 3200m (14:02 - 12:16); Treston Cullimore, pole vault (10'00 - 10'11); Ammon Riley, discus (116' - 130'); Tanner Kutterer, 300m hurdles (46.22 - 44.50); Will Cannon, 1600m run (5:15 - 4:59). There are many more- let’s hope they keep coming.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
Edwin Moses attended Moorhead University in Georgia on an academic scholarship majoring in physics and industrial engineering. On the side, he ran track for the school team, experimenting with some new techniques that allowed him to take 13 steps between hurdles. In 1976, Edwin Moses won the Olympic Gold Medal in the 400m hurdles in a World Record time of 47.63. He had run the event fewer than a dozen times. On August 26, 1977, Moses lost a 400m hurdle race. He then went 9 years, 9 months and 9 days before he lost again, a remarkable streak of 117 races. There has never been a streak like that in any sport. He credits this incredible feat to the way he approached his training.
"My concentration level blocks out everything. Concentration is why some athletes are better than others. You develop that concentration in training. You can't be lackadaisical in training and concentrate in a meet."
Let's approach every workout with the right attitude.
